I have a new MacBook Air and it started working normally, but the accents menu - which used to appear when you hold a keyboard key down in order to select which accent you want - has stopped appearing and I cannot create accents anymore. I saw a previous conversation where someone was helped with a Terminal command
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true
but it does not work for me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure your input source is set to "US"
Make sure you do not have Webroot on your machine
Make sure your key repeat is not set to Off and that your delay is not set too long (system settings/keyboard/keyboard)
Show more LessAccent Menu Not Working After an OS update on my macbook pro, my Accent Menu is not working. When I press and hold a key that allows for accents (such as 'a') the letter just repeats. I have tried turning off the Key Repeat slider but the Accent Menu still does not pop-up. Please help me fix it, Apple is trying to make my life harder.
Accent Menu on Macbook Pro 2020 Big Sur NOWHERE TO BE FOUND I cannot for the life of me find/activate the accent menu. I'm a modern language major so having the accents is very necessary for me. The accent menu worked perfectly fine on my 2017 MacBook Pro and now with this new 2020 with Big Sur, it's disappeared. No solution online (I've only seen 2) works. Going to Modifier Keys in System Preferences and making sure they're on Default does not work. Going to Terminal and entering defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true does not work either! With this Terminal option, restarting the laptop rewrites everything and goes right back to the default setting of repeating the letters when holding down the keys. I've never had to even think about it using the MacBook Pro 2017. Now, I can't function and can't find a solution. Really frustrating!!
Keyboard functions after recent update My MacBook Air just updated to macOS Monterey 12.0.1 and has removed the function of adding accent option when holding a letter down. I've looked into system preferences > keyboard > slider thing off but it isn't working. I'm a language student so since I updated last night, it's been a nuisance. What can I do to return the long-press and accent options coming up? I prefer it to any other method possible.
